After visiting a close friend, she sent me photos of her granddaughter and new puppy to pull me back into inspiration. I had been doodling and doing thumbnails on a search for direction. I did a value sketch of the little girl and dog that I posted thinking its more abstract nature was where I wanted to go. The grandmother decided she'd like a portrait of them. I felt more realism was necessary for the portrait and though I don't love painting smiles, I'll admit I'm pleased with this one. The important requirement was satisfied, my friend and Lillian's grandmother loves it. She has since commissioned me to paint 3 more family portraits.
"Lillian and Apricot" was a finalist in the April 2021 Gallery Ring, Anything Show.
